# Welcome, start here

This book is your introduction to Bookstack and how to use it

# What is Bookstack?

### Overview

Put simply, Bookstack is a platform for organising and storing information with an easy to use interface.

Information is stored in books on shelves, with each book having individual chapters and pages. This allows for a good degree of organisation between topics, and with all books being searchable you can find what you need no matter what page it's on.

For instance this is Page 1 in the "Welcome, Start Here" book on the "Home" shelf. Above the title at the top of this page you'll see symbols with arrows between them which show where you are in the hierarchy.

Here you can see we went from the main page for shelves, to a specific shelf, to a book, and lastly to this page. To go back to any of the previous points, just click/tap the corresponding symbol and you'll be taken back there.

For more information on what to expect from our use of Bookstack, navigate to the next page. There will be buttons at the bottom of a page to take you to the next or previous page where available.

# What you can expect

Our aim with using Bookstack is to provide our users and members with the various guides and manuals they might need when accessing our services. From hand tools to power tools, websites to physical sites, the idea is to place each piece of information into an intuitive home for you to find.

For example we are currently in the first book on the "Home" shelf. It's unlikely there will be as specific a book as "Table Saws" on the Home shelf, instead that would probably belong on the "Tools" shelf.

Alongside this specific book you are more likely to find our contact and location information, details on open evenings or recurring events, our code of conduct etc.
